The cheapest way into real espresso — but know the compromises.
The Dedica Arte is the espresso machine you see in every "best coffee machine under £250" list, and there's a reason. At 15cm wide, it fits into spaces no other machine can. The 15-bar pump with a thermoblock heater gets to temperature fast, and the redesigned steam wand on the Arte version is a genuine improvement over the older Dedica models. However — and this matters — the pressurised baskets mean you're working against the machine if you want to dial in properly. It makes decent espresso, not great espresso. The gap between this and a Sage Bambino is real, and it's worth the extra £70 if you can stretch.
At this price point, a manual grinder is the only option that won't compromise your coffee. The C3 ESP PRO's fine adjustment steps match the Dedica's narrow sweet spot.
You're on the tightest possible budget and need something that fits in a tiny kitchen. If your priority is convenience over extraction perfection, the Dedica delivers acceptable espresso at a price that won't sting. But if you're serious about the craft, save another £70 for the Sage Bambino — the difference in cup quality is significant.
